A first letter to families

Original fictional Grade 3 draft by an invented teacher. Classroom plans are exercise assumptions. No actual school, child, family, date or sent message.

Dear families,

Welcome to our Grade 3 classroom. I am Ms. Rivera, and I look forward to getting to know your child and the people who support them.

Our planned classroom routines give children opportunities to explain an idea, listen to a partner, and ask for clarification. For example, we will look at a short text or picture, describe what we notice, and discuss the clues behind our ideas. Children can begin by speaking, pointing, or drawing as the activity allows.

You know things about your child that I do not know yet. What helps your child feel ready to join an unfamiliar activity? If you would like to share an example, please use the school's confirmed private reply route below. There is no required response deadline in this draft.

Teacher contact and private reply route: __________

If another language or a printed copy would help, please let us know through the school's confirmed contact route so we can arrange the available support. Please use that private route for individual questions rather than a family-wide page.

I look forward to learning about your child's interests and working with your family as we begin the year.

Ms. Rivera
