I keep the systems that other teams build on. Most of my work is removing things: a queue nobody reads, a service that wraps one query, a nightly job that has not changed an outcome since 2024. Happiest when the on-call rota is boring.
Experience
Senior platform engineerBramble Freight2022 – now
- Rebuilt the dispatch pipeline. Nightly run fell from 6 hours to 41 minutes with no new hardware.
- Cut services from 34 to 19 by deleting wrappers. Incident count fell 44 percent the following quarter.
- Wrote the on-call handbook the team actually uses, and put the runbooks next to the alerts.
Backend engineerPenhale Cloud2018 – 2022
- Owned the metering service through a 9x traffic increase without a rewrite.
- Introduced the change review that finance still uses to sign off on billing logic.
EngineerLarkmoor2015 – 2018
- First platform hire. Built the deploy pipeline that outlasted three product rewrites.
