If an app says Connected but cannot perform your request, identify which check failed before disconnecting it. App availability depends on the plan, region, workspace, role, model, and interface you use.
Connect the account that has the information
Select Install plugin if shown, then Connect when requested. Some apps use an administrator-managed connection or need no personal sign-in. For individual authorization, choose the provider account that can already access the work and review the requested services and permissions. Older mobile interfaces may show Apps instead of Plugins. Setup and account authorization
Keep the two account choices distinct. Your ChatGPT workspace is one choice; the account connected from another service is another. Connecting a work Microsoft account does not turn a personal ChatGPT workspace into a managed organization workspace.
Some apps support multiple connected accounts. Review Connected accounts or Connection in the app settings, using the controls actually shown. When multiple accounts are supported, specify the intended account in the request. A personal connection does not grant access to files held only by your work account. Managing multiple accounts
Test a narrow request before a cross-app task
Start with one service and one item you can open yourself. This original diagnostic request can be adapted to a supported app:
Use [APP] with [INTENDED CONNECTED ACCOUNT] to find [EXACT ITEM].
Read only. Return its title, source link, and the passage containing
[DISTINCTIVE PHRASE]. If you can find the title but cannot read the
content, distinguish those results. Do not infer the missing text.
Do not edit, send, publish, or change permissions.
Open the returned source. Check whether the quoted passage is present and whether the app used the intended account. Only then broaden the request to combine information or prepare a change.
For example, finding an event brief's title does not establish that the assistant read its accessibility instructions. Keep “item found” and “content read” as separate observations. This example describes a check to perform, not a live account test.
Match the error to the next action
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| App absent from the menu | Account eligibility, current interface, installation, and supported conversation |
| Connected, but unavailable in this chat | Selected model and surface; try a supported text conversation if voice is unavailable |
| Admin approval required | Ask the relevant administrator to review access; the message itself does not submit a request |
| Correct title, missing contents | Item access and the app's ability to retrieve that content |
| Proposed action cannot finish | Supported action, provider permission, workspace controls, and any approval request |
OpenAI distinguishes these states in its app troubleshooting instructions. Avoid reinstalling repeatedly when a feature is unavailable on your plan or surface. A provider administrator and a ChatGPT workspace administrator may control different parts of access.
For provider-specific checks, use Google Drive source verification or the distinction between connected Slack search and @ChatGPT inside Slack.
Review removal separately from cleanup
Disconnecting an account stops future access through it. Other connected accounts can remain active. Uninstalling a plugin can disconnect all its associated accounts, so read the confirmation before proceeding. Existing conversations, saved files, and memories do not disappear simply because the connection is removed. Disconnection consequences
When reporting a failure, include the app, intended account and workspace, exact message, surface, and failed step. Keep passwords and tokens out of the report. That gives support something more useful than “the app is connected but broken.”
