Choose the smallest place that owns the change. If only a product's care instructions need a list, start in its description rather than editing the layout used by every product.
Find the field that contains the text
In Shopify admin, open Products and select the intended product. Its Description field uses the rich text editor. Check the product title and current description before changing anything, especially when similar products have different care requirements. Product details
Copy the existing content somewhere you can restore it. In the description's HTML view, make a small edit and inspect the formatted result. The same rich text workflow is available for several other content fields, but a theme section's settings are a separate place to edit.
Replace pasted formatting with a simple fragment
This original fictional description illustrates a cleanup. The issue is the pasted fixed-width wrapper, which can exceed a narrow content area:
<div style="width:900px;font-family:ExampleFont">
<p>Care for the fabric pouch</p>
<p>Hand wash. Air dry.</p>
</div>
If those are the approved care instructions, the content can instead be:
<h2>Care for the fabric pouch</h2>
<ul>
<li>Hand wash.</li>
<li>Air dry.</li>
</ul>
The edit preserves both instructions while removing the fixed width and pasted font. Substitute your own verified product instructions. The snippet does not establish that any real fabric is washable.
Paste a content fragment into the field. Keep full-page wrappers such as <!doctype html>, <head>, and <body> out of this description. The storefront already supplies the document around it. A heading and list should be read as content inside that existing page.
Shopify warns that copied HTML can cause display errors and that the editor filters or corrects HTML. If markup changes after editing, compare the saved source before assuming it was preserved exactly. Content HTML and filtering
Use theme code for a theme-level change
A layout adjustment shared across products belongs in the theme workflow. Shopify recommends using an app or the theme editor when they can make the required change. If code editing is necessary, duplicate the theme first and work with someone who understands its HTML, CSS, and Liquid. The code editor is available from Online Store > … > Edit code. Theme editing and backup
For variant selection, price, media, or purchase availability, a description snippet is insufficient. The Shopify product-template guide covers keeping those states together.
Check the storefront where the content will appear
Review the intended product through your approved store workflow. Check the care heading and both list items at desktop and phone widths. Confirm that removing formatting did not remove a link, image, or product-specific instruction you still need.
If the saved content is correct but spacing remains wrong across every product, investigate the theme's styles. If only this description breaks, compare its remaining markup with a description that displays correctly. Keep the correction in the place responsible for the problem, and retain the original copy until the result is checked.
