This workflow produces text for Anki's native Cloze note type. It does not create ChatGPT's interactive flashcard deck or require an Anki connector.
Decide what should disappear together
Use this original fictional workshop instruction as the sole source:
The studio kit is collected from Shelf B.
Return the kit to Shelf B after the session.
The blue label identifies the studio kit.
For the first recall task, collection and return locations should be hidden together. A second task should test the identifying label. This proposed Text field expresses that plan:
Collect the studio kit from {{c1::Shelf B::collection location}}.
Return it to {{c1::Shelf B::return location}} after the session.
The {{c2::blue::label color}} label identifies the studio kit.
The two c1 deletions belong to one generated card. Its question hides both locations while leaving blue visible. The c2 card hides blue while leaving the locations visible. Under the standard Cloze note type, this note therefore describes two cards, not one card per pair of braces.
Anki's editing manual, checked October 24, 2026, documents numbered cloze deletions and optional hints. The hint follows the second double colon; it should help identify the requested fact without revealing the answer.
Ask for the note and its deletion plan
Prepare Anki Cloze note text from these supplied notes only.
Source and version: [ENTER]
Permitted source passage: [PASTE]
Facts to test independently: [ENTER]
Facts deliberately tested together: [ENTER, OR NONE]
Return a Text field using {{c1::answer::optional hint}} syntax and
a short card plan: cloze number, hidden passages, visible context,
expected answer. Reuse a number only for facts designated as a group.
Preserve the source's conditions and wording where they affect meaning.
Keep unsupported questions in a separate list. Do not invent facts
or promise retention results. Do not import, sync or change my deck.
OpenAI's prompting guidance supports giving the source and desired output. Here, the deletion plan makes the card structure reviewable before any note is added.
Preview each cloze number in Anki
Choose the native Cloze note type, place the reviewed text in its Text field and inspect the generated cards. For c1, check that both Shelf B answers are hidden together and that each hint names the appropriate location role. For c2, check that only blue is hidden. The actual native preview establishes what your selected note type displays.
If the locations should instead be tested independently, assign the return location c2 and the color c3. That revised plan describes three cards. Make the change deliberately; renumbering a deletion changes the recall task even when the visible source sentence remains the same.
Keep a short source reference in the note's extra information if that suits your established template. Check that an answer or source excerpt displayed on the question side does not reveal the blank. Custom templates need their own preview.
For the later problem of updating an imported note without duplicating it, the Anki flashcard-maker guide covers stable identity and import scope. Finish this task by matching each native cloze preview to its intended recall question and checking every answer against the source.
