Make ChatGPT read an existing answer aloud on Android

In the ChatGPT Android app, open the written response and check the buttons beneath it or its more options (•••) menu for Read aloud. Available response actions vary by message, so the option may not appear on every answer. OpenAI's mobile response-action instructions

This is useful when you want to listen to wording already on the screen. Starting a microphone conversation is a different task; ChatGPT Voice covers speaking back and forth.

Choose the response you actually want to hear

Reopen the conversation, find the final version, and read its first line before starting playback. If you asked for several revisions, an earlier answer may contain a date or phrase you already rejected.

Use the response controls, rather than assuming that holding the text will open the old ChatGPT action menu. The current Android instructions describe touch-and-hold as text selection; ChatGPT response actions sit below the answer or in its more-options menu. Current Android controls

Listen for the wording, then verify the facts in text

Suppose you are reviewing this fictional event announcement:

The orientation starts at 10:30 a.m. in Room 14. Bring the registration email. The optional tour begins afterward; it is not part of check-in.

Listening can help you notice whether the final sentence is awkward or the instruction is too long. It cannot establish that 10:30 or Room 14 is correct. Compare those details with the organizer's actual notice.

If the distinction between check-in and the tour remains unclear, request a targeted revision:

Revise the announcement so arrival instructions and the optional
tour are in separate sentences. Keep the supplied time and room.
Do not add a tour time, registration requirement, or location.

After receiving a revision, check the new text against the source before listening again. Read aloud is a review aid; fluent speech is not evidence that the underlying facts were preserved.

If the option is missing or you hear nothing

First confirm that you are checking a ChatGPT response, then inspect both the visible actions and the more-options menu. Because actions vary by message, a missing item on one response does not prove that your account needs a paid upgrade.

For silent playback, check the phone's media volume and whether audio is routed to headphones or another device. Those are general device checks, not a guarantee that a particular response supports playback. If the app freezes, record the app version and error behavior for troubleshooting.

If you need the announcement immediately, continue reviewing its visible text. Keep the final written version with the source you used to verify its time, room, and instructions.
