Use an embedded viewer for the document features your desktop application actually needs. Keep a browser opening route for reports whose behavior depends on a full browser engine.
Choose the viewer before copying browser code
TkinterWeb provides an HtmlFrame widget for displaying HTML in a Tkinter application. Its current getting-started page documents version 4 APIs and installation extras for optional capabilities. Check the installed version and its dependencies before adapting an older example. TkinterWeb getting started
Begin with a static heading and paragraph. Confirm that the window opens, text appears, and the frame expands with the window. That first check separates an installation or layout problem from a report-resource problem. A blank frame is too early to diagnose a complicated chart.
Keep the report and its asset folder together
Consider this original report package:
inspection-packet/
report.html
assets/
logo.png
report.css
The report refers to assets/logo.png and assets/report.css. Its heading reads “North entrance inspection,” followed by “Two door closers need adjustment.”
First use the documented file-loading route for the actual report file. Avoid moving only report.html into a temporary directory. The relative references still need the associated assets folder.
If your application reads the file into a string before displaying it, supply an appropriate base URL to load_html. Without one, that method uses the current working directory. An application launched from a shortcut may therefore look in a different place from one launched in your project folder. HtmlFrame loading methods
Compare the viewer's resolved location with the actual asset location. Changing the current working directory globally to repair one report can affect unrelated file operations; make the report location explicit at its loading boundary instead.
Test the document features you depend on
In the native viewer, check the heading, paragraph, logo, stylesheet, scrolling, and a representative link. Resize the application so the report becomes narrow. Record any clipped columns or inaccessible controls before deciding that the viewer is suitable.
JavaScript support in the current HtmlFrame documentation is experimental and disabled by default. Do not assume that installing a viewer makes a browser chart, module script, or framework application work. Test a required feature separately using the installed version and documented dependencies.
If the report needs unsupported behavior, open that report in the user's browser or prepare a simpler static report from the same source data. Label a static copy so readers know whether its numbers update. Do not silently replace a live filter with a picture of its controls.
Diagnose the missing piece
If text appears but the logo does not, inspect the resolved asset path and the file's presence first. If the logo appears but the layout differs, reduce the stylesheet to the rules needed for readable report content. For ordinary browser image failures, HTML image troubleshooting covers the file-package checks.
Keep the HTML package as the report source and test it in the intended native viewer. A successful Chrome preview can confirm that the source is readable in Chrome; it cannot establish TkinterWeb compatibility. The handoff is complete when the desktop reader can see the inspection finding and its supporting content in the application they will actually use.
