Five signup entries arrive, but two are repeat submissions. The snack order needs the number of distinct attendees rather than the number of rows. This example exposes that difference with a compact count you can check against the visible input.
The finished count is three: Maya, Owen, and Nina. The five source entries remain visible so the count has an explanation. Reading size after creating a Set is a compact way to count unique primitive values, but the identity rule still comes from those values. For this demonstration, equal names count as the same entry.

Try the result before changing the rule
Edit the JSON and select Update preview to rerun the same expression. Original data restores this starting sample; Changed data supplies another preset. The operation runs locally in the example, so trying a value does not send an invitation, change a product, or save a setting.

Follow one run
The Set constructor keeps only one occurrence of each string. Its size property is therefore three even though the submitted array contains five entries. size is a property read, not a function call. The original list remains available for comparing total submissions with distinct names.
const data = [
"Maya",
"Owen",
"Maya",
"Nina",
"Owen"
];
const result = new Set(data).size;
console.log(result);
The starting sample returns:
3
The input is JSON-friendly, while the working collection is a Set. That distinction explains why the source panel can retain repeated values even when the result does not. When the result is a list, the wrapper converts the collection for display; a boolean or count is shown directly.

Check the case that changes the answer
Distinct names are not necessarily distinct people. Use a stable ID when counting real attendees, and do not confuse Set.size with the length of the original array.
size belongs to the Set, while length belongs to the original array. Calling size with parentheses fails because it is not a function. An empty Set has size zero. The property is maintained by the collection, so additions and deletions affect it without a separate manual counting loop.
The smaller version keeps the same expression with fewer visual elements. Use Edit code to inspect the complete HTML, or Copy code to run it as a local file. If the script does not execute, the JavaScript troubleshooting guide helps check placement and syntax.

Make one edit you can predict
Add several repeats and then one new name. Observe which change increases the distinct count and which only increases the length of the submitted list.
Add Maya three times and expect the result to remain three. Add Leo once and expect four. Then remove every Nina occurrence and expect three again. Compare those results with the raw row count to make sure the label on your own dashboard says distinct attendees rather than total submissions. Decide whether your dashboard should count submitted rows or unique identifiers before choosing this technique. Both counts can be correct while answering completely different reporting questions.

Keep strings double-quoted when editing this sample. A JSON parsing example explains the difference between a parse error and a valid value that the operation cannot use.
Before adding the count to a dashboard, agree on whether the label means submissions or distinct attendees. Use representative sample names in the HTML and share the runnable example through NOS, so another person can verify that duplicates produce the intended count. Their preview edits are local to their run; sharing the HTML does not automatically synchronize those edits.
