Typora provides these HTML export routes directly. Other formats, including Word, use Pandoc. Installing Pandoc is unnecessary just to obtain HTML. Typora export documentation
Open the Markdown file on your Mac
Get the macOS download through Typora's official site, then follow its installation prompts. The current macOS support page lists macOS 11 or later and native Apple Silicon support. Check that page's older-system link if your Mac runs an earlier version. Typora on macOS
Once Typora is installed, open an existing Markdown file from Terminal with:
open -a typora audio-return.md
Run the command from the folder containing that file, or provide its complete path. This opens the editable Markdown source in Typora. Opening an exported .html file in a browser serves the separate purpose of checking what a reader receives.
Save a note with a portable folder structure
Imagine a short handoff note for a borrowed audio kit. This is an original practice document, so replace its details before using it:
# Audio kit return
Return the kit to the equipment desk by 4 p.m.
## Pack together
- Recorder and padded case
- USB cable
- Two microphone clips

The label on the case reads `AUDIO-07`.
Save the Markdown as audio-return.md. Put a real image that you are permitted to use at images/packed-recorder.jpg, relative to that file. If you do not have the image, remove the image line for the practice export.
Typora resolves ordinary relative image paths from the Markdown file's folder. Its image settings can prefer relative paths when inserting images into a saved document. Image path settings
The useful folder arrangement is:
audio-handoff/
audio-return.md
audio-return.html
images/
packed-recorder.jpg
Export the copy for its destination
Open the saved note and choose File > Export > HTML. Save the result alongside the Markdown for this first check. Open audio-return.html in a browser and look for the return time, three separate packing items, the case label, and the image.
If a website will insert the content into its own layout, use the export without styles. If the recipient will open the file directly, inspect the styled export first. Typora also provides HTML export preferences for an outline and custom head or body content; leave those alone unless this particular document needs them.
Do not assume the export is one independent file merely because its text and styling appear correct. Inspect the actual image src values. A path beginning with a local home folder will not point at the recipient's copy of the photo.
Test the copy after moving it
Copy the exported HTML and its required image folder into a separate test folder. Open that copy. This catches a different mistake from looking at the export beside the source: the original document may have been borrowing an image elsewhere on your computer.
For the audio note, compare four concrete details:
| Part | What to confirm in the moved copy |
|---|---|
| Return instruction | The same desk and 4 p.m. time |
| Packing list | Three distinct items |
| Case label | Literal AUDIO-07, with its zero retained |
| Photo | The intended image loads from the supplied files |
A missing image with correct text usually needs a path or packaging correction. Relative and absolute paths explains how the browser locates the file. Changing the wording of the note will not repair its image address.
Typora's special typora-root-url setting can help its own preview find images, but that local preview arrangement should not be treated as evidence that the exported page can find them elsewhere. Review what the exported HTML actually references.
Keep the Markdown and the reading copy in step
When the return time changes, edit the Markdown and export again. Typora offers Export with Previous and Export and Overwrite with Previous for repeating a successful export. Choose the overwrite command only when you intend to replace that destination file. Repeat export commands
Open the result once more and confirm the changed instruction. Keep the source note and the distributed HTML revision together so the next edit starts from the intended version. If the required deliverable is a PDF or Word file, use that format's export route and check that file separately.
