A debugging helper needs to show exactly how many values a legacy calculation received. Inspecting an ordinary function's arguments object makes the incoming call visible, even though the function declares no named parameters for those values.
The initial call receives three values: eighteen, four, and two. The returned count is therefore three, and values reproduces that sequence as a plain array. The function declares no named parameters, showing that an ordinary function can still inspect the actual arguments supplied by its caller. This is primarily useful when reading or debugging existing code built around that convention.

Follow the value through the operation
Spread the input array into an ordinary function call, then read arguments.length and convert the array-like arguments object into a plain array for display. The resulting count and values describe that invocation; inspecting them does not modify the source array.
arguments is array-like, not an ordinary Array instance. It exposes indexed entries and a length, but it does not automatically have the array methods you might expect. Array.from creates the plain array displayed by the panel. That conversion belongs to this inspection helper; the special arguments object itself remains inside the function invocation.
Arrow functions do not create their own arguments object. An arrow may see one from a surrounding ordinary function, which can be even more confusing than a missing value when you intended to inspect the arrow's own call. Rest parameters make the intended list explicit for new code: a parameter such as ...values provides an actual array of the collected ordinary arguments without relying on that special object.
Add a fourth value and inspect count four and the extended array. Remove all entries and the function receives zero arguments, producing count zero and an empty values list. The example spreads a short known list into the call; a large dataset should stay in an array parameter instead. Function argument slots are not an appropriate transport for an unbounded number of records, regardless of how conveniently a spread expression appears to unpack them.

Run the same calculation in your code
The JavaScript below isolates this example’s calculation. The complete HTML also includes its editable input and result panels.
const data = [18,4,2];
const result = (()=>{function received(){return {count:arguments.length,values:Array.from(arguments)};}return received(...data);})();
console.log(result);
The original input produces this result:
{
"count": 3,
"values": [
18,
4,
2
]
}
The function runs on plain in-memory data. Creating an object or invoking a method here does not save a booking, update a remote service, or synchronize another visitor’s changes.
Check the boundary before reusing it
Arrow functions do not have their own arguments object. For new flexible APIs, rest parameters are usually clearer; also avoid passing huge arrays as argument lists in production.
Add one value to the small input list and compare its count and values. Keep the list short, then contrast this legacy inspection with a rest-parameter function.
Changed removes the final input-list entry, so the ordinary function receives two arguments instead of three. Its displayed count and converted array should agree. This directly tests received inputs without needing named parameters or a different function body.

The editor expects valid JSON. If punctuation prevents a run, check the JSON parsing lesson before changing the calculation. If your copied page does not execute at all, check how JavaScript connects to HTML. The official MDN reference documents the underlying operation.
When investigating a legacy calculation, start by confirming the values it actually receives. Share the runnable HTML as a link so a teammate can add or remove a short input-list entry and inspect the count. That establishes the call contract before you replace the special arguments object with clearer rest parameters.
