A venue checklist includes a stop marker after the opening checks. The preview should collect the tasks before that marker and leave later work alone, making an early exit useful without pretending every item has been processed.
The finished checklist contains Inspect sign and Open doors. It excludes the STOP marker and the later Count guests task. This makes the cut point explicit: the marker is control data, not another task to display. A reviewer can move that marker to see exactly where the checklist stops without deleting anything from the original source list.

Build the working example
const data = ["Inspect sign","Open doors","STOP","Count guests"];
const result = (()=>{if(!Array.isArray(data))return 'Enter a task array';const completed=[];for(const task of data){if(task==='STOP')break;completed.push(String(task));}return completed;})();
console.log(result);
The loop examines each task before adding it. Meeting the exact string STOP exits the nearest loop immediately. The first two tasks therefore appear in the result, while the marker and Count guests do not. The input list remains intact.
On each iteration, the function checks the current task before pushing it into completed. If it is exactly STOP, break terminates the nearest loop. The function then continues after that loop and returns completed. That is different from return inside the loop, which would leave the function immediately. It also differs from continue, which skips only one iteration and would allow later tasks to be collected. Here stopping after the marker is the required behavior, so break describes the rule precisely.
The original input returns:
[
"Inspect sign",
"Open doors"
]

Test the boundary that matters
Move STOP to the first position. The result should be an empty array because no task is added before the exit. Remove the marker and all supplied tasks should be returned, including Count guests. With an empty array, the loop simply has nothing to process. A blank string is not STOP and would be collected as a blank task in this focused example. If real checklist data may include gaps, add a separate skip rule rather than changing what the stopping marker means.

Break exits the loop, not the whole surrounding function. If later code should also be skipped, return may express that requirement more clearly.
If the complete page stops before producing a result, compare it with the checks in HTML JavaScript not working.
Make one useful change
Move STOP to the first position and then remove it. Predict the collected task count for both cases before checking the preview.
For the exercise, put the marker after the first task and expect only Inspect sign. Then remove it and expect every actual task. Consider whether an uppercase marker is an appropriate format for the real workflow: a structured field such as stop:true can be clearer when task names might legitimately include the word STOP. Whichever format you choose, check the stopping condition before the item is appended if the marker itself should remain invisible.
The checklist now demonstrates a concrete opening boundary that a venue lead can review. Share the complete stopping example using NOS and ask them to move the marker to the correct point. The shared page helps agree which tasks belong to opening checks; it does not record that anyone has actually performed those tasks or replace the venue's operational checklist.
For the exact syntax and behavior, see MDN: break.
