A guest list should not show a blank badge when someone leaves their display name empty. The preview chooses a supplied name when it is usable, then falls back to Guest, keeping the replacement rule easy to see.
The original badge returns Guest because displayName is an empty string. The fallback prevents the page from showing a blank identity label, while a real supplied name still takes priority. This is a narrow display rule, and keeping it narrow matters: replacing an empty name is not the same task as replacing a missing price or an explicitly false preference.

Build the working example
const data = {"displayName":"","fallback":"Guest"};
const result = data&&typeof data==='object' ? {label:data.displayName||data.fallback||'Anonymous'} : 'Enter name settings';
console.log(result);
Logical OR returns the first truthy operand and skips evaluating later operands once it finds one. The empty displayName is falsy, so the supplied Guest fallback becomes the label. If both fields are falsy, the final Anonymous string is returned.
Logical OR checks displayName first. If it is truthy, that exact value is returned and the remaining operands are skipped. Otherwise the operator checks fallback, then finally Anonymous. The returned value can be a string, number, or another operand type; OR does not force a Boolean result. Here the result is wrapped in an object with a label property for clear display. The important distinction from nullish coalescing is what counts as needing replacement. OR replaces every falsy value in this chain, including zero and false, while nullish coalescing preserves those values and falls back only for null or undefined.
The original input returns:
{
"label": "Guest"
}

Test the boundary that matters
Type a nonempty displayName such as Avery and expect that name to win over Guest. Then set displayName to 0; Guest should return because numeric zero is falsy. An empty object reaches Anonymous because both preceding fields are missing. Finally test a whitespace only name. It is truthy and therefore survives this expression, even though it may look blank on a badge. If your actual form treats whitespace as empty, trim and validate the name deliberately before applying the fallback chain.

OR treats 0, false, and empty text as missing for this decision. Use nullish coalescing when valid zero or false values must be preserved.
If the complete page stops before producing a result, compare it with the checks in HTML JavaScript not working.
Make one useful change
Use displayName 0 and fallback Guest, then a nonempty name. Explain whether treating numeric zero as absent suits a name badge.
For the exercise, compare the zero case with a normal name and decide whether a numeric name is allowed by the product. The result is not a universal validation policy. A contact badge can sensibly treat an empty name as absent, but a cart discount of 0 must often remain 0. Use the neighboring nullish coalescing lesson for that preservation requirement rather than copying this display name fallback into an unrelated numeric field.
The badge copy is now ready for a quick identity display review. Share its complete runnable preview with NOS and ask a teammate to try a normal name, empty text, and whitespace. Those three inputs expose the real display policy, so the final form can handle names intentionally instead of assuming a fallback operator also cleans every kind of input.
For the exact syntax and behavior, see MDN: logical OR.
