An estimate reads 12.6, but the summary card should show a whole number. Before changing the display, decide what that whole number means: nearest estimate, fully completed units, or enough units to cover a remainder.
Math.round chooses the nearest integer. For this estimate, the result is 13. The live example keeps the original decimal beside the returned value, so rounding does not erase the information used to make the decision.

Return the nearest whole estimate
Math.round(data) receives the numeric value 12.6 and returns 13. The original data remains 12.6; rounding returns a number instead of editing the source value in place.
Values below the half-way point round to the lower integer, and values above it round to the higher integer. At an exact half, JavaScript chooses the integer toward positive infinity. That tie rule matters when negative values are allowed.
Use the rounded number for a display that really means nearest whole estimate. If you are counting complete batches, floor is the better question; if you need enough boxes to cover everything, ceil expresses that different requirement.
const data = 12.6;
const result = Math.round(data);
console.log(result);
The original sample returns:
13

Negative halves follow a specific tie rule
Math.round(-12.5) returns -12, not -13. It is therefore inaccurate to describe the method as always rounding halves away from zero. A positive-only demo can hide that mistake.
Rounding to an integer is also different from formatting decimal places. toFixed returns a string for display, while round returns a numeric integer. Multiplying a money amount by 100 and rounding introduces separate binary floating-point concerns; this short estimate example does not establish a complete currency rule.
If a form accepts text, validate and convert it deliberately. A permissive conversion that turns an empty string into zero can show a plausible but unintended estimate.
Test the half-way boundary
Try 12.4, 12.5, and 12.6, predicting each result before updating the preview. Then repeat with -12.4, -12.5, and -12.6. The half-way cases reveal the tie direction.
For a practical extension, label the card "nearest whole estimate" and keep the unrounded value available in a detail view. That wording helps the reader understand why 13 appears and prevents them from confusing a rounded estimate with a guaranteed capacity.

The MDN reference for Math.round() documents the method's full behavior and browser compatibility.
For help editing the sample input, the JSON guide explains valid JSON and how parsing turns it into JavaScript values.
Share a working explanation
Review the rounding rule with someone who will use the estimate, especially if negative values are possible. Share the complete HTML through HTML to link on NOS so they can try boundary values. The example demonstrates a calculation; it does not save estimates to a shared planning system.
