A booking module needs a revenue estimate that depends only on two supplied numbers, not on an existing booking instance. A static method keeps that utility with the class while making its class-level calling convention explicit.
At eighteen per seat and twenty-four seats, the revenue utility returns 432. The call is Booking.revenue, so the class constructor is where the method is accessed. No individual booking instance supplies data fields for this calculation. Both inputs are ordinary method parameters, making this class-level utility straightforward to test separately from a booking object's lifecycle.

Follow the value through the operation
Declare revenue with the static keyword and call Booking.revenue using the price and seats. No booking instance is constructed for this calculation. The numeric result belongs to the function call, and the input object remains unchanged by the class-level utility.
Static describes where the method belongs and how it is reached. It does not mean the result is fixed, that the method cannot read shared state, or that its calculation happens only once. This particular implementation is a simple multiplication, but another static method could still be expensive or stateful. Claims about purity and caching must come from the method body and its surrounding design.
An instance created with new Booking would not inherit revenue as an instance method through Booking.prototype. Calling booking.revenue would therefore fail in this example. Conversely, an ordinary instance method would need an instance receiver rather than being reached through Booking in the same way. Distinguishing those access points prevents a class definition from turning into an unclear mixture of utility functions and record-specific behavior.
Change seats to thirty and expect 540. Change price to twenty while keeping twenty-four seats and expect 480. In the copied snippet, call the static method twice with different pairs without constructing any bookings. If the calculation does not need the class as an organizing namespace, a standalone function could also express it clearly. The lesson demonstrates the static calling convention rather than insisting that every arithmetic helper belongs inside a class.

Run the same calculation in your code
The JavaScript below isolates this example’s calculation. The complete HTML also includes its editable input and result panels.
const data = {"price":18,"seats":24};
const result = (()=>{class Booking{static revenue(price,seats){return price*seats;}}return Booking.revenue(data.price,data.seats);})();
console.log(result);
The original input produces this result:
432
The function runs on plain in-memory data. Creating an object or invoking a method here does not save a booking, update a remote service, or synchronize another visitor’s changes.
Check the boundary before reusing it
Static methods belong to the class constructor, not its instances. Calling instance.revenue would fail here; static also does not automatically mean pure, cached, or independent of mutable shared state.
Change the price and seats independently and inspect the estimate. In the copied snippet, compare this class call with a separate instance method before choosing an API.
Changed supplies price nineteen and zero seats, producing zero revenue. No instance is constructed for either run. The zero quantity tests the arithmetic, while the class-level call remains Booking.revenue with both values supplied as ordinary parameters.

The editor expects valid JSON. If punctuation prevents a run, check the JSON parsing lesson before changing the calculation. If your copied page does not execute at all, check how JavaScript connects to HTML. The official MDN reference documents the underlying operation.
The revenue estimate does not need an existing booking, so check its class-level calling convention before adding it to the module. Share the runnable HTML as a link and ask a teammate to compare two price-and-seat pairs. That confirms this utility contract without constructing unrelated instance state.
