A support queue needs to jump to its first urgent ticket. Its position matters because the interface will select the corresponding row.
Ticket 42 is the urgent item in a three-ticket queue. The interface needs its row position so it can select that row. We will return index 1, which identifies the second row, rather than confusing the array index with ticket ID 42.

Try the working result
The result is the number 1. Change the first ticket to urgent and update the preview; the result becomes 0. If two tickets are urgent, the earlier one wins. These cases make the first-match rule visible before a row-selection feature uses it.
Use Changed data for another preset, or edit the JSON and press Update preview. The controls use sample data; they do not contact a backend.

Follow the code
findIndex returns the first passing element's zero-based index. Index 1 means the second row.
The callback checks whether item.priority equals "urgent". findIndex searches from the beginning and stops when that comparison passes. Its return identifies the position in the current array, not a permanent identity for the ticket. Reordering the queue can change that index while the ticket ID stays the same.
const data = [
{
"id": 41,
"priority": "normal"
},
{
"id": 42,
"priority": "urgent"
},
{
"id": 43,
"priority": "normal"
}
];
const result = data.findIndex(item => item.priority === 'urgent');
console.log(result);
The original sample returns:
1
Compare the numeric result with the source rows. The urgent ticket has id 42, but its position is 1 because array indexes begin at zero.

Take the small version apart
The starter uses the same operation with a simpler layout. Choose Edit code to inspect its HTML and script, or Copy code to save the complete example as index.html. Open that file in your browser to run it without a framework. JSON inputs need double-quoted keys and strings.

Avoid the common mistake
A missing match returns -1. Passing that value to splice can remove the final entry accidentally.
Do not test the result with if (index): index 0 is falsy even though it is a successful match, and -1 is truthy even though no match exists. Check index !== -1 before selecting or editing a row. In particular, splice(-1, 1) would remove the last ticket.
Change one rule, then check it
Make every ticket normal and show a no-urgent-ticket state.
An empty queue returns -1. Make every priority normal and verify that the missing state is also -1. A helpful interface should say No urgent tickets rather than selecting the final row. If it needs the ticket object itself, use find instead.

The MDN reference covers the full syntax and browser support. If your saved page does not run its script, the HTML and JavaScript guide helps check the file setup.
Put the example in someone else's hands
A queue shortcut deserves a test with the urgent item in the first row, the last row, and no row. Share the fictional ticket preview so a teammate can verify those selection decisions before you attach them to an actual support queue.
Copy the complete HTML and use HTML to link to share the runnable file through NOS. Each visitor can try the browser-side example; this does not synchronize edits or add a shared database.
