A quote calculator keeps an hourly rate on one object, but its calculation function will be passed around separately. Binding the pricing context first lets later callers provide hours without accidentally losing the rate the quote depends on.
The initial rate is forty-five and the requested duration is three hours, producing a total of 135. The pricing object supplies the receiver, while the later function call supplies hours. Keeping those roles visible helps when a button handler, a formatter, or another helper needs to receive the quote function without knowing how its rate was stored.

Follow the value through the operation
Define an ordinary function that reads this.rate, then bind it to the pricing object. bind returns a new callable function without running the calculation. Calling that bound function with the input hours produces the total while leaving the source data unchanged.
bind does not immediately calculate the quote. It creates a new function whose this value is tied to pricing. The expression bound(data.hours) then invokes that prepared function and returns the amount. A plain detached quote function would not necessarily receive pricing as its this value when another piece of code invoked it. Binding establishes that relationship before the function crosses the boundary.
The original quote function remains available and unchanged. The bound function refers to the pricing object rather than taking a frozen snapshot of its rate. If you update pricing.rate later in the copied snippet and invoke the bound function again, it reads the new rate. That behavior can be useful, but it should be deliberate when an estimate is meant to preserve a historical price.
Try four hours at the original rate; the result should be 180. Then change the rate to fifty while restoring three hours, giving 150. To understand partial application separately, bind could also fix an ordinary first argument, but this example deliberately binds only the receiver. Introducing both ideas at once would make it harder to tell whether a changed total came from the context or from a prefilled argument.

Run the same calculation in your code
The JavaScript below isolates this example’s calculation. The complete HTML also includes its editable input and result panels.
const data = {"rate":45,"hours":3};
const result = (()=>{function quote(hours){return this.rate*hours;}const pricing={rate:data.rate};const bound=quote.bind(pricing);return {total:bound(data.hours),rate:pricing.rate};})();
console.log(result);
The original input produces this result:
{
"total": 135,
"rate": 45
}
The function runs on plain in-memory data. Creating an object or invoking a method here does not save a booking, update a remote service, or synchronize another visitor’s changes.
Check the boundary before reusing it
Arrow functions do not acquire a new this through bind. Binding also does not freeze object properties, so later changes to the referenced pricing object can affect subsequent calculations.
Change the hours and then the rate separately. Inspect the total responding to both values, and keep the binding step distinct from the later function call.
Changed supplies rate forty-six and four hours, producing 184. The receiver contributes the rate while the later invocation contributes hours. Follow those two paths separately, then make a one-field manual edit if you want to isolate either dependency.

The editor expects valid JSON. If punctuation prevents a run, check the JSON parsing lesson before changing the calculation. If your copied page does not execute at all, check how JavaScript connects to HTML. The official MDN reference documents the underlying operation.
Before passing the quote function into another component, check that it still uses the intended pricing object. Share the runnable HTML as a link so a teammate can vary both hours and rate. That gives the later callable a concrete receiver test, rather than assuming its original method location will protect it.
