A one-off estimate needs to run an existing calculation using a particular hourly rate. Supplying the receiver explicitly avoids permanently attaching the function to every possible pricing object just to calculate a single quote for the screen.
With a rate of forty-five and three hours, the result is 135. The calculation function reads this.rate, so the explicit receiver passed to call is what supplies that rate. The next argument is the ordinary hours parameter. These are different channels into the function, even though both appear together in the call expression.

Follow the value through the operation
Define quote as an ordinary function and call it through Function.call. The first argument supplies its this value, and the following argument supplies hours. call runs the function immediately and returns its numeric result, unlike bind, which prepares another function for later use.
call invokes quote immediately and returns its result. It does not prepare a reusable callable for another component. That makes it a clear fit for this one-off calculation: select the current pricing context, supply hours, receive the number. If the function must be passed elsewhere and invoked later without a receiver argument, bind expresses that separate requirement more directly.
You can invoke the same original function with another pricing object on the next line. There is no need to install quote as a method on each object beforehand. The method has still not become context-free; its implementation depends on this.rate. A design that passes rate as an ordinary parameter would be another valid choice, but this example teaches how to work with a function that already uses a receiver.
Set hours to four while leaving rate at forty-five, and expect 180. Next set rate to fifty with three hours, expecting 150. In the copied snippet, try two call invocations with two different rate objects and the same hours. Comparing those totals demonstrates explicit invocation context without adding any asynchronous code, event handling, or temporary changes to the input object's properties.

Run the same calculation in your code
The JavaScript below isolates this example’s calculation. The complete HTML also includes its editable input and result panels.
const data = {"rate":45,"hours":3};
const result = (()=>{function quote(hours){return this.rate*hours;}return quote.call({rate:data.rate},data.hours);})();
console.log(result);
The original input produces this result:
135
The function runs on plain in-memory data. Creating an object or invoking a method here does not save a booking, update a remote service, or synchronize another visitor’s changes.
Check the boundary before reusing it
call cannot replace an arrow function's lexical this. The receiver and ordinary arguments serve different roles, so including the rate object among the hours arguments would not configure this correctly.
Change the hours and observe the immediate result. Then compare the call syntax with the related bind lesson to distinguish invocation from preparing a reusable callable.
Changed uses rate forty-six and four hours, so the immediate call returns 184. The rate comes from the explicitly supplied receiver, while hours remains an ordinary argument. A manual one-field change can isolate either role for comparison.

The editor expects valid JSON. If punctuation prevents a run, check the JSON parsing lesson before changing the calculation. If your copied page does not execute at all, check how JavaScript connects to HTML. The official MDN reference documents the underlying operation.
For this one-off estimate, the useful check is which rate object supplies this invocation. Share the runnable HTML as a link and ask a teammate to compare two rates with identical hours. Once that context is clear, keep the immediate call or choose bind only if later invocation is actually needed.
