An imported spreadsheet stores an item code as text while an older service stores it as a number. A comparison panel shows what loose equality permits and contrasts it with strict equality, so the conversion is visible rather than accidental.
The finished comparison reports looseMatch true and strictMatch false for the same two supplied values. That contrast is the lesson, rather than a recommendation to use loose equality everywhere. A spreadsheet import often creates text where another system expects numbers, and a visible comparison makes the conversion behavior much easier to discuss than a mysteriously accepted item code.

Build the working example
const data = {"entered":"42","expected":42};
const result = data&&typeof data==='object' ? {looseMatch:data.entered==data.expected,strictMatch:data.entered===data.expected} : 'Enter entered and expected values';
console.log(result);
With the supplied values, loose equality converts compatible primitive types and returns true, while strict equality returns false. Both results are displayed together. This teaches the conversion behavior without recommending that every validation rule should accept differently typed values.
The equality operator uses its own conversion rules when the operand types differ. In this example, the numeric looking string 42 can be compared as a number with 42, so the loose comparison succeeds. Strict equality leaves the representations distinct and fails. The original fields remain unchanged: performing a loose comparison does not rewrite the string into a number in the source record. This matters when a later operation reads the same value and still receives text. A successful comparison and a completed data normalization are separate events, and the preview keeps both comparisons visible to avoid confusing them.
The original input returns:
{
"looseMatch": true,
"strictMatch": false
}

Test the boundary that matters
Try entered as an empty string and expected as 0. The loose result becomes true while the strict result remains false. Next use entered null and expected false; both comparisons should be false. These cases show why loose equality cannot be explained as simply converting everything to strings or accepting all falsy values as equivalent. An empty object supplies missing values, which compare equal to each other here; a real item lookup should reject missing required fields before reaching the equality test.

Loose equality has special conversion rules; it does not simply convert both sides to strings. Prefer deliberate normalization when an interface needs a clear accepted input format.
If the complete page stops before producing a result, compare it with the checks in HTML JavaScript not working.
Make one useful change
Compare empty text with 0, then compare null with false. Record both operators' results and decide which input policy your actual form should enforce.
For the exercise, record the empty string and zero result, then the null and false result, before choosing a rule. If item codes can contain leading zeros, treating them as numbers may be wrong even when equality succeeds. Normalize an accepted textual code format explicitly when that is the contract. The comparison panel is most useful for discovering these import assumptions, not for silently relaxing every validation rule until a sample happens to pass.
Once the representation policy is clear, someone who owns the source spreadsheet can review it in a runnable form. Share the full comparison page through NOS with a few harmless sample codes. They can see which values match under each operator, and the import implementation can then adopt the deliberate format policy rather than relying on accidental coercion.
For the exact syntax and behavior, see MDN: loose equality.
