An amount field contains the text "invalid". You want to detect a failed numeric conversion, but testing the raw text with Number.isNaN does not report a failure: a string is not itself the numeric value NaN.
Number.isNaN checks for actual NaN without converting its argument. This example returns false for the raw text and true after Number converts that text. Showing both checks helps explain where validation belongs in an input workflow.

Compare raw text with a converted number
The returned object has two fields. rawIsNaN checks data directly. Because the sample is a string, the result is false. convertedIsNaN first runs Number(data); that conversion cannot produce a usable number from "invalid", so its NaN result makes the second check true.
This difference is deliberate. Number.isNaN does not decide whether any arbitrary input would become invalid after conversion. It identifies the special numeric value NaN that can emerge from a calculation or conversion.
Keep the original text for an error message, and store the converted value separately. Then the interface can explain what the user supplied instead of replacing their entry with an unhelpful NaN label.
const data = "not a number";
const result = ({rawIsNaN: Number.isNaN(data), convertedIsNaN: Number.isNaN(Number(data))});
console.log(result);
The original sample returns:
{
"rawIsNaN": false,
"convertedIsNaN": true
}

False does not prove a valid amount
Number.isNaN returning false does not prove a value is a valid amount. It also returns false for strings, objects, null, and Infinity because none is the numeric value NaN. For a usable numeric amount, Number.isFinite is often a more direct final check.
Conversion needs its own policy. Number('') and Number(null) yield zero, so merely converting then rejecting NaN may accept values your form should treat as missing. Check blank input before conversion if blank means no answer.
Do not confuse this method with the global isNaN function, which performs conversion. Mixing the two without understanding that difference can make validation change when the input type changes.
Test numeric text and blank input
Try the string "12.5". Both checks should be false, but for different reasons: the raw value is not NaN, and the converted value is the valid number 12.5. Next, try an empty string and decide whether accepting its converted zero matches your form.
In the copied starter, check a deliberately generated NaN such as Number('invalid'). JSON cannot contain NaN directly, so construct that value in JavaScript rather than typing it as an unquoted JSON input.

The MDN reference for Number.isNaN() documents the method's full behavior and browser compatibility.
For help editing the sample input, the JSON guide explains valid JSON and how parsing turns it into JavaScript values.
Share a working explanation
A validation review benefits from seeing raw input and converted results together. Share the complete HTML using HTML to link through NOS so someone can try the blank and invalid cases. Keep the samples fictional; this page demonstrates local conversion and does not submit values to a payment or account system.
