An emoji marks the start of a ticket label. Treating its first UTF-16 unit as the whole character would produce the wrong numeric identifier. codePointAt can read the full code point at that position, making this example useful for checking a single symbol's representation.
The returned number is 128512 for the opening smile. Unlike charCodeAt, codePointAt combines the leading and trailing surrogate when it starts at that leading unit. This lets the example read the full code point without changing the label. The result identifies a Unicode value, rather than the count of visible characters in the rest of the text.

Try the result before changing the rule
Edit the JSON and select Update preview to rerun the same expression. Original data restores this starting sample; Changed data supplies another preset. The operation runs locally in the example, so trying a value does not send an invitation, change a product, or save a setting.

Follow one run
The smile begins at UTF-16 index zero. codePointAt detects its leading surrogate and combines the pair into the full code point, returning 128512. The method reads without changing the string. Its index still counts code units, so advancing by one can land on the trailing surrogate.
const data = "😀 ticket";
const result = data.codePointAt(0);
console.log(result);
The starting sample returns:
128512
The source panel retains the original value while the operation returns its result. Numbers shown here represent exactly what this function reads or constructs; they are not automatically a character count or a byte encoding. Keeping the raw value visible makes that distinction easier to check with a second sample.

Check the case that changes the answer
A Unicode code point is not always a complete visible character. Flags, skin-tone sequences, and combining marks can contain multiple code points, so use grapheme segmentation for user-perceived character boundaries.
Starting at the trailing surrogate is not equivalent to starting at the smile. codePointAt there returns that trailing unit's value. An out-of-range index returns undefined. If you need to visit every code point, iterating the string with for...of is easier than incrementing a raw code-unit index by one for every visible symbol.
The smaller version keeps the same expression with fewer visual elements. Use Edit code to inspect the complete HTML, or Copy code to run it as a local file. If the script does not execute, the JavaScript troubleshooting guide helps check placement and syntax.

Make one edit you can predict
Try an ordinary letter, a single emoji, and an accented sequence. Compare numeric code points without assuming each visible symbol occupies one code unit or one code point.
Replace the smile with A and expect sixty-five. Restore the smile and compare positions zero and one to see the code-unit indexing rule. Then try an empty string and expect undefined. For a display-character counter, investigate grapheme segmentation separately; adding code points is not enough for flags or combined emoji sequences. Keep numeric code-point inspection separate from text editing. A correct point value does not tell you where every user-perceived character begins or ends in a label.

Keep strings double-quoted when editing this sample. A JSON parsing example explains the difference between a parse error and a valid value that the operation cannot use.
If a teammate is debugging emoji labels, set representative sample text in the HTML and share the runnable example through NOS. They can compare the first code point with a trailing surrogate position while keeping the original label visible. That is inspection, not a complete grapheme counter. Their preview edits are local to their run; sharing the HTML does not automatically synchronize those edits.
