A welcome draft repeats the same placeholder. Changing only its first occurrence makes the difference between a single and global replacement visible.
The message Hello NAME. Your badge says NAME. contains the same placeholder twice. This lesson changes only the greeting to Mina, leaving the badge placeholder untouched. That visible contrast explains when a single replacement is useful and when it is insufficient.

Try the working result
The returned message is Hello Mina. Your badge says NAME. Look at both occurrences rather than just the first sentence. The source still contains NAME twice, because replace produces a new string instead of editing the existing one.
Use Changed data for another preset, or edit the JSON and press Update preview. The controls use sample data; they do not contact a backend.

Follow the code
replace returns a new string. A plain string search changes only the first NAME occurrence.
The first argument is the literal text to find; the second is its replacement. With a plain string search, replace stops after the first match. Assign or render the returned value when you want to use the updated message; calling the method and ignoring its return leaves your original variable as it was.
const data = "Hello NAME. Your badge says NAME.";
const result = data.replace('NAME', 'Mina');
console.log(result);
The original sample returns:
"Hello Mina. Your badge says NAME."
The remaining NAME in the badge is the key result here. It proves that a matching first sentence is not enough to verify a full template update.

Take the small version apart
The starter uses the same operation with a simpler layout. Choose Edit code to inspect its HTML and script, or Copy code to save the complete example as index.html. Open that file in your browser to run it without a framework. JSON inputs need double-quoted keys and strings.

Avoid the common mistake
The source stays unchanged and the second placeholder remains. Use replaceAll if every literal occurrence should change.
If every literal NAME should change, use replaceAll("NAME", "Mina"). A global regular expression can also replace multiple matches, but its pattern has different rules. Do not construct a regular expression from arbitrary user text unless you account for characters with special regex meaning.
Change one rule, then check it
Inspect the unchanged placeholder and choose the rule appropriate for a full message.
With no NAME present, the returned text has the same content as the input. With an empty message, the result is empty. Try a message beginning with NAME and another with lowercase name: the literal search is case-sensitive, so only the uppercase placeholder matches.

The MDN reference covers the full syntax and browser support. If your saved page does not run its script, the HTML and JavaScript guide helps check the file setup.
Put the example in someone else's hands
Before choosing a replacement rule for a welcome template, show a reviewer the entire resulting message. A working preview lets them spot an unfilled badge placeholder immediately. Keep the demonstration name fictional while you decide which occurrences should change.
