A ticket note contains a number, and you need to know where that number begins so another piece of code can highlight it. String.search() returns the position of a regular-expression match.
For Ticket 104 needs review, the first digit starts at index 7. Unlike match, search gives you a position rather than the matched text.

Try the working result
Use Changed data to compare a second sample, or edit the JSON and press Update preview. Original data restores the starting example. This is a running browser demonstration, so the visible result comes from the operation rather than a fixed screenshot.

Follow the operation
The pattern /\d/ looks for a digit. data.search(/\d/) finds the first matching position, so the returned value is 7 for this note.
Indexes start at zero: Ticket occupies positions zero through five, its following space is position six, and 1 is at position seven. The source string remains unchanged.
A regular expression can express more than a literal character search. For example, a pattern can look for the first digit even when you do not know which digit it will be. If you only need a fixed literal substring, indexOf may communicate that simpler intent more directly.
Here is the exact expression behind the original result:
const data = "Ticket 104 needs review";
const result = data.search(/\d/);
console.log(result);
Its returned value is:
7

Handle the important boundary
When there is no match, search returns -1. Index zero is a valid successful result, so a truthiness check such as if (position) gets both zero and -1 wrong in different ways. Compare explicitly with -1 or test position >= 0.
A global flag does not make search return every matching position. It still supplies only the first position. To collect multiple matches, use a method designed to iterate them, rather than expecting search to return an array.
Make the behavior your own
Replace the input with 104 needs review and confirm that the result becomes zero. Then remove the digits and check for -1. These two cases are more informative than only testing a match in the middle.
In the copied starter, render Found at index followed by the position only when position >= 0. Otherwise show No digit found. Finally, add two numbers to the note and verify that the reported position still belongs to the first one.

For the full definition and compatibility details, see the MDN reference for String.search. If the copied file's script does not run, the HTML and JavaScript guide covers the surrounding setup.
Share a version worth testing
A highlight feature needs to handle matches at the beginning and missing matches correctly. Share the complete HTML through HTML to link so someone can try those edge cases. NOS makes the prototype accessible; the note text remains sample input processed in each visitor's browser.
